Sam's Breast Cancer Fundraiser
Thursday, October 4, 2012
For the past four years, the National Football League Players Association has supported October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink cleats on the field, using a pink coin for the coin toss and pink sideline caps for coaches among other things.
Thirteen year old Sam Richardson of the Caledonia Thunder Peewee Rep team (OMHA) is a passionate hockey player who noticed this annual support, and wished that hockey players would show the same kind of support for a cause that effects so many of us in some way or another. This is what sparked Sam’s great idea; to have local sport stores sell pink hockey tape and laces during the month of October and give profits to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.
Sam walked into three local sports stores and proposed this idea to shop owners who happily jumped on board with Sam’s Fundraiser. From now untill the end of October, purchase pink tape or skate laces at Hodges Skate Shop, Lanas Booth or Lawrence’s Sports in Caledonia to support Sam’s fundraising initiative.
