Rick Morphew receives Hockey Canada Officiating Award

The Ontario Hockey Federation would like to congratulate Rick Morphew, Past Referee in Chief of the Ontario Hockey Federation, for being named the 2020 Hockey Canada Officiating Award recipient.
Given annually by Hockey Canada, the Officiating Award recognizes an individual for their outstanding contribution to officiating and for their notable impact on the game at the member and national levels.
Serving as Referee-in-Chief for the OHF since 1996, Morphew’s is a long-time Master Course Conductor, Instructor, Supervisor and contributor to the Hockey Canada Officiating Program. Having held the position for over 20 years, his service in the role speaks volumes to his abilities in fulfilling the mandate of the position which is to oversee the technical side of the officiating program He has been involved nationally as well as in the Province of Ontario and has been active at one time or another with every Member Partner in the OHF.
“Rick has been a great connector of the officials in the game over the last 20 years,” said Phillip McKee, executive director of the OHF. “His connections in the officiating world were key in guiding the OHF Officiating Program in its early years and to have the positive relationships between the OHF Members Officiating Programs.”
Rick has been involved with the Referees Program since the mid-1960’s, taking his experience on to serve as Technical Director for the OMHA Referee Program, in addition to his role as RiC. His extensive network of contacts has brought incredible resources and expertise to the Officiating Program. Not only is he very well known, but extremely well respected in the hockey community.
“Rick has touched so many lives with positive inspiration developing on and off ice game officials,” said Tony Foresi, OHF Chairman. “His accomplishments have been enormous, but it is more about who he has lifted up and made better. Rick improved all of us in the OHF immensely.”
