Coach 1 - Intro to Coach Training

Intro to Coach is not necessarily targeted to the inexperienced coach. This program shows coaches how to teach hockey’s basic skills while keeping the theme of their practices with an emphasis on fun and fundamentals. Coach 1 reviews the basic tools they will need in the areas of leadership, communication, teaching skills, and lesson planning. All this is taught with the special considerations of the youngest athletes in mind

Typically run over the course of one day. Topics include: supporting the athlete through communication, teaching skills and progressions in the training environment, designing and delivering practices and the game environment and game day preparations.

Process:

The Coach 1 - Intro to Coach Training consists of two components:

  1. Hockey University - Online Modules
  2. Intro To Coach Clinic (in-class course work and on-ice Specialty Skills Session)

A Coach will complete this process in one of two ways (depending on their Member):

The Coach will first register for the clinic through e-hockey. Once registered the coach will complete the Hockey Canada Hockey University E-Learning Modules (1-12) online. A HU link will be provided upon clinic registration. Upon completion of these online modules, a Coach will complete a 3 hour Classroom Session and 1.5 hour On-Ice Session.

The Coach will first complete the Hockey Canada Hockey University E-Learning Modules (1-12) online. Upon completion of these online modules, a Coach will register for a Coach 2 - Coach Level Clinic which will consist of a 4 hour Classroom Session and 1.5 hour On-Ice Session. When the Coach has completed the online component they will be considered IN-TRAINING, and once the in-class component and the on-ice Specialty Skills Session is completed, the Coach will be considered TRAINED


COACH 2 - COACH LEVEL

Overview:

The NCCP Coach 2 - Coach Level course is the second level of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) within the Community Coach Stream. The Coach 2 - Coach Level course follows the competency based education and training method of learning and is an excellent course for all new and recreational level coaches. The NCCP Coach 2 - Coach Level will provide an introduction to player development and will teach coach knowledge, skills and attitudes in the following areas:

  • How to communicate effectively with athletes and parents;
  • How to support the athlete in the team environment;
  • How to support the athlete in the training environment;
  • How to support the athlete in a practice environment;
  • How to support the athlete in a game environment.

The NCCP Coach 2 - Coach Level emphasizes basic skills and the importance of having players develop confidence, self-esteem and a love for the game. This program follows the Community Coach Stream and the Long Term Player Development stages of – Learn to Play, Learn to Train.
