A City That Produces Legends

Hockey isn’t a side hobby in Sudbury — it’s part of the city’s identity. The community is steeped in history as the birthplace of major hockey names and Hall of Fame talent, with a track record of producing elite players and leaders in the game.

Sudbury’s hockey story includes

  • NHL and hockey icons tied to the region, including Art Ross, Hector “Toe” Blake, George Armstrong, and Eddie Giacomin

  • A deep bench of NHL alumni and hockey lifers that keeps the sport front-and-centre in the city’s culture.

Despite its growth and diversification, hockey remains Sudbury's favorite pastime. Sudbury is steeped in hockey history; it is the birthplace of several hockey pioneers and hall of famers including many prominent players got their start playing local outdoor rinks including Eddie Shack, Dave Taylor, Randy Carlyle, Mike, Nick and Marcus Foligno, Brian Savage, Todd and Tyler Bertuzzi, Andrew Brunette, and Derek Mackenzie; there have been over sixty other Sudburians who played at the NHL level. Sudbury's own Tessa Bonhomme and Rebecca Johnston have inspired local girls through their success and prominence having competed professionally and representing Canada at the highest stages of Women's hockey. For over one hundred years, our community has welcomed everyone to learn, participate and enjoy the game of hockey.

The Copper Cliff Reds U13AA are built to compete — and they’re aiming to stay among Ontario’s best all season.

  • Clear team purpose: push for NOHA Tournament of Champions success and prove they belong with the province’s top programs (as competitors, not just hosts)
