OHF Launches 2026 Goaltender Assist Program to Help Introduce More Young Athletes to the Position
Date: Jun, 10, 2026 11:00 AM EDT
The Ontario Hockey Federation is proud to launch the 2026 Goaltender Assist Program, an initiative designed to help introduce more young athletes to the position of goaltender by reducing the financial barrier associated with getting started in net.
Through the program, the OHF will provide $250,000 worth of goaltending equipment to Associations across Ontario, supporting local hockey communities and helping make the position more accessible for young participants.
The program is focused on supporting U7 and U9 athletes who are interested in trying goaltending but may face financial challenges associated with purchasing specialized equipment.
Selected Associations will receive complete goaltending equipment packages that may include:
- Pads
- Glove
- Blocker
- Stick
- Chest Protector
Based on feedback from previous participants and Associations, all equipment packages will include catch left hand and blocker right configurations to support beginner goaltenders entering the position.
The OHF recognizes that goaltending can often present one of the largest financial barriers for families entering hockey. Through the Goaltender Assist Program, the organization aims to continue growing participation while helping Associations provide more opportunities for young athletes to experience the game in a new position.
By investing directly into local hockey communities, the program will help Associations introduce more players to goaltending while supporting long-term accessibility and development across the province.
