Safe Sport
Promoting A Safe & Respectful Environment
At the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), in partnership with Hockey Canada, we are committed to fostering a sport culture that is safe, inclusive, and free from all forms of maltreatment. Creating a safe environment for everyone involved in hockey — from players and coaches to officials, parents, and volunteers — requires a shared commitment. A healthy sport culture starts with education, proactive policies, and clear reporting mechanisms to protect the well-being of all participants.
What is Safe Sport?
Safe Sport means providing a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment where maltreatment, abuse, discrimination, and harassment have no place. It involves not only preventing harmful behaviour but also responding effectively when issues arise.
Everyone Has A Role
Maintaining a safe sport culture is a collective responsibility. Athletes, coaches, officials, parents, administrators, and organizations must work together to uphold high standards of behaviour and accountability.
Reporting Maltreatment
In response to any allegations of maltreatment, Hockey Canada has implemented an Independent Third Party (ITP) complaint process. This ensures that all concerns are handled with neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism — outside of the hockey hierarchy.
Who can report?
- Individuals directly experiencing maltreatment
- Witnesses to harmful behaviour
- Advocates acting on someone’s behalf
How To Report
If you need to file a complaint or want to learn more about the process, including your rights as a complainant or respondent, you can find detailed information on policies and procedures at:
